Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will separate from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as important members in House Halovar could assist the group access places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
