Energy infrastructure under attack in the region
The country's energy systems have faced escalating strikes in the past few days

Overnight, Russian aerial assaults have led to power cuts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were hurt while residents in eastern neighborhoods were plunged into darkness and encountered interruptions to water systems, as stated by city officials.

Simultaneously, a seven-year-old child was killed in a different assault in the Zaporizhzhia area in the country's south-east, as reported by local officials.

Moscow has intensified strikes on electrical systems over the last fortnight, while officials has requested "substantial measures" from allies to apply pressure on Russia.

"The necessity is not superficial actions but strong steps - from the America, the EU and the G7 - in providing protection systems and enforcing sanctions," he wrote in a social media post.

Authorities reported that 450 drones and over thirty projectiles struck Ukraine's energy infrastructure, describing such attacks as "strategic and deliberate" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as temperatures become colder.

Energy officials said Moscow was "launching a major assault" and repair crews were laboring to repair systems.

A wave of strikes struck electrical systems and residential structures in the capital.

Five out of the nine people injured in the attacks on the capital have been hospitalized, as confirmed by city authorities.
