Wimbledon will follow the US and Australian Opens in utilizing replay technology.
Replay technology are set to arrive at The Championships this year.
Players are granted the ability to contest certain decisions made by the chair umpire, mirroring the practice already in use at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
This innovation will be operational on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This development comes just a season following the All England Club introduced ELC, which effectively ended the longstanding tradition of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the official to re-examine other situations, including:
- Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
- Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the number of reviews a player can ask for.
A Recent Example
An illustrative example took place in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player conceded it was a tough call for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire watched a video and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, granting the rally to his opponent.
Growing Trend
Video reviews aren't exclusive to major tournaments. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit plans to have the system implemented at all of its events.
Further Updates
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This solves situations where the crowd have occasionally been unsure whether a ball was out or in.
In other news, with exactly a century of days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have further announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
